How To File For Patent License In Sri Lanka

Initial documentation
A POA (to be provided by Counselit) duly signed by the applicant, Applicant Information, Declaration by the inventor, Statement of applicant's right to the patent (basis of claim), Preliminary Examination Report from WIPO and the International Search Report, PCT application, full specification including description, claims, and drawings, Priority Document

File Patent Application
Submit the local application form accompanied by a fax copy of the Power of Attorney and a copy of the PCT application. Other documents can be filed later.

Preliminary Examination
The Patent Office examines the application to determine whether it meets the statutory requirements. If the examination report is adverse the to the grant of patent, the applicant has a period of 3 months to comply with the requirements.

Patent Publication
If the application fulfills the required formalities, the accepted appliaction will be published in the Gazette. Copies of the patent together with search report would be made available to the public.

Final Decision and Registration
If there are no objections, the patent will be granted. The entire process takes approximately three years.
